Advanced water
Alor is not a checkout-dive destination. The Pantar Strait funnels strong surface currents between islands, so a wall dive here starts with a fast, controlled descent and a regroup around 5 metres before the reef takes over.
What you get in exchange is scale. Sheer volcanic walls plated in red and orange gorgonian fans, dense soft coral, and blue water off your shoulder where schooling fish and the occasional pelagic pass through.
Be honest about the floor. You should be confident dropping fast, equalising quickly and regrouping with your guide near 5 metres in moving water. Thermoclines can drop some sites to 20°C or lower even when the surface is warm, so a decent exposure suit earns its place.
All dives are no-decompression, solo diving is not allowed, and bottom time is usually capped at 60 minutes or when a diver reaches 50 bar.
Five walls
Site selection depends on the day's current, the group's experience and the operator's carrying-capacity slot. Depth and current bands are planning notes set at the briefing, not guarantees.

Most Alor dives run 15 to 25 metres. The scalloped-hammerhead profile at Kal's Dream can reach around 32 metres in very strong current and demands genuine fitness.

Timing and rules
Best conditions run April to November, with October and November bringing the most prevalent currents — prime for the pinnacle and wall sites that need water movement to fire up.
Water sits around 25°C in March–April and October–November, rising to 31–32°C from May to September. Visibility is normally 25–30 metres, up to about 40 in the dry June–October stretch.

Operators here accept a minimum of PADI Open Water for fun diving, but for wall and pinnacle sites in the Pantar Strait they recommend 50 to 100 logged dives. The strong currents demand rapid descents and quick regrouping around 5 metres, so honest comfort in moving water matters more than the certification card itself.
Yes. DAN or equivalent dive-accident insurance is mandatory on every Currentline Alor booking. The nearest hyperbaric chamber is in Bali, and evacuation and chamber costs are not covered by standard travel or medical insurance. We confirm your policy before locking any dates.
No, and we will never promise them. Kal's Dream can bring scalloped hammerheads in very strong current at around 32 metres, and September is the strongest month for mola mola. These are genuine possibilities, not scheduled events. We frame every pelagic encounter as possible rather than predictable.
